Wellness: The state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.

In the last year and a half, things have sure changed – YEAH!

During this time I have come to understand how important it is to be healthy, lose weight and start investing in homesteading, so I know what I am eating and what I can grow for medicinal use.

Since we live in Hawaii and our weather is pretty good year around, we do have that advantage thankfully. Though wherever you live you can also grow food on your porch, in your living room, in a greenhouse or in your kitchen. That would be my first suggestion. I would ask you to rethink your total dependency on the supermarket these days. Put some cans of food away, freeze some meats, learn how to can food and grow some herbs. Get involved in a community garden and know your neighbors, before we are shut in again.

Now whether everything is going to be fine,,,,, OR NOT – it could be the right time to evaluate our health and figure out what our bodies need, since we do need good immunity these days. In the last six months I have lost over 25 pounds and I feel so much better. My normal day is to make sure I am lifting my weights and doing resistance exercises on top of any garden/farm work I need to do outside. It feels great that I am giving away my clothes that are way to large for me now and watching what I eat and the supplements I am taking. Once I finally got free of all the sugars that are in all the prepackaged foods, stop eating pastas and breads – the weight just dropped off.

I have a way to go, but baby steps and a commitment, and continuing with my new habits will keep me on course. Plus there are ways to help those cravings like pastas, breads and ice cream,,, they have Keto substitutes and wow that makes it much easier to be able to eat with your family.

During my journey in learning about what I was buying for my skincare and deciding to make my own, this same mindset has had me reevaluate my food habits, especially when I can tell that the vegetables and meats that we get from the market normally is radiated and grown with all sorts of toxins in them. That is both for vegetables and meat.

Living in this world we do now, a lot of us are just making it financially and it is hard to even think of changing how we eat. Though what I have found is that it can be a real simple change if you are able to realize what we been taught about food is not the reality of what is does in our bodies. My weight loss has been switching to a low carb diet and it isn’t about running more, doing 30,000 exercises to get healthy – though I do believe activity is a definite must.

One night I was laying in bed with leg cramps and realized I had not drank enough water that day or taken my magnesium/zinc supplement in a couple of days. I got up drank some water, stretched and went back to bed. The next day I caught up on my magnesium/zinc supplement and no more cramps. Now you do not have to go buy a supplement, but eat some of the following foods that are high in magnesium and these are low carb also:

  • Avocados
  • Leafy Green Vegetables like Swiss Chard, Kale, Spinach
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Fish: Halibut & Salmon

Now I am not going to be on a diet forever, I just need to get to my healthy weight and then eat healthy, know what will put the weight back on and keep active. For some of us it is getting out of bed and/or the chair stretching, walking around the house, up the stairs and around the house. If possible take a walk on your street, around the block, take a hike or walk on the path. For others, it maybe surfing, hiking mountains, canoeing – etc. Whatever it maybe, think about starting today and please try not to be sedentary.

Maybe your weight is fine and you are not struggling with that, but you are on lots of medicines. If you do, research or even talk to your doctor, most illnesses are food related and either it is huge amounts of sugar foods, or foods that turn into sugars or foods that cause inflammation in your body. The key here is nutrition and again knowing what foods do to your body. A lot of foods we have thought healthy or thought bad – is the exact opposite. This a BIG THING.

Well I am going to wrap it up now, but my focus will be sharing my journey, what I am learning with articles and video links. May this be a blessing to you and I would love to hear from you.
