Many of us love coffee in the morning and how it wakes us up out of slumber and starts the day. Whether rushing off to our jobs in person or online, to the beach or to the mountains, or just getting up and needing our brain to function with the rest of our body – coffee is wonderful!

In fact hot fresh coffee has a wonderful rich aroma that can transport us to that perfect place where you just settle in and see what the new day has in store for us. Ahh, the little things of life.

Well, one morning I found myself sitting in the yard with my coffee, the birds were out singing and the rain had stopped, the sun was finally out. It felt good to be out sipping my coffee and it occur to me, maybe I can try to make some coffee soap and see if I could capture that aroma for my morning shower?

Like any new adventure I began to explore if it was possible and began seeing how to go about capturing that coffee aroma in oil to make my desired soap.

As I was figuring out what I needed to make this soap smell as good as my coffee, I realized I needed to extract coffee oil from the beans of the coffee instead of buying it from a outside source.

So I took some 100% light roasted Ka’u coffee beans and ground them up and added them to coconut oil in my Magical Butter Machine for 4 hours on low heat then changed out the old grounds for new beans and it seemed to be a success.

Once this was accomplished the grounds were separated from the oil; and the oil were allowed to sit and separate by their weight. The top oil is used as part of the mixtures of specialty oils for the soap blend and the very thick coffee oil/paste is the what holds the aromatic fragrance. I kept the fine grounds to put in the soap for an exfoliate.

The oils that I chose for this specialty soap are: Coffee Infused Coconut, Olive, Palm, Castor, Macadamia Nut, Kukui Nut, and Vanilla Infused Soy. During the cold process saponification, I added the coffee oil/paste, and a small amount of coffee grounds I saved, to create this exfoliating artisan soap.

During this time of finding the right blends, I have read many articles about the benefits of the caffeine from coffee, which spoke about decreases the appearance of sun spots, redness and fine lines, reduces hyper-pigmentation and decreases photoaging caused by sun damage. Now can my coffee soap do all this? – I haven’t the faintest but I do take the minimalist approach of keeping it simple and our skin will speak for itself.

One thing I do know is that I really like my my morning shower with this soap, followed by my cup of coffee!

Have a great day!
